30 Day's of Stephen King Challenge

Came up with this in response to other 30 day sketch challenges mainly because I'm a horror guy and a Stephen King guy and I thought it would be fun. I'll be posting my sketches throughout October so keep an eye for that. I planning on following this up by doing the 30 day monster girl challenge in November. Hey guys I'm taking a hiatus from commission work starting October 1st but before I go into hiding I'm going to offer 5 commissions at 1/2 off my normal rates. So hit me up and get something done before you can't for awhile.

Commissioned art means you ask me to draw you something your OC, your favorite superhero, movie monster, car, whatever and I'll draw you a picture of it for moneyz.

A sale means I'm charging less then I normally charge. XD

Limited time means that after the 1st of October I'm shutting down shop for a bit, taking sometime to work on other projects which means if you don't get a spot now you could be waiting for awhile.

So don't delay, I have 0 slots left! Get 'em while there hot!

Slot 1 - :iconastrallight:
Slot 2 - :iconastrallight:
Slot 3 - LC - Sawyer the Cleaner
Slot 4 - :iconpeekaboo2: - Red Sonja

Hey gang long time no bloggy. Sorry about that. I think my days have somehow shrunk to 18 hours or something. Anyway tons of stuff going on I need to update folks on so here goes.

First off October is convention season for me. woohoo! I will be at River Road Expo at Tioga Downs Casino and I will be at Hero Bot Con 2. There will be plenty of swag to be had and if you're so inclined I am taking preorders on stuff until the 21st. I will be posting a swag list probably within the next couple of days so you can see and hopefully lock-up any items you want. Also as much as i'd like to meet you I understand not everyone can make it to central NY for comic conventions but if you still want items I can mail them to you, just need to get extra for shipping.

Next I'm back at school, taking fine arts and design at Corning Community College with delusions of moving on and getting my masters in illustration. It's been pretty fun so far. Much more laid back then AI.

On to commissions I have a little back log right now, thank you guys who are waiting for your patience. I will be taking a hiatus from commissions starting October 1st so if you're interested in commissioning any art work please get your project in before then.

Finally, I've been seeing this 30 day monster girl sketch challenge and it seems interesting. Next month i'm going to be doing a 30 day sketch challenge. The deal is each day has a subject or theme and you belt out a sketch for it, neat. So the monster girls thing seemed interesting but I wanted to come up with my own and any of you who find it interesting and want to tag along and join in feel free. With it being the month of Halloween and all I think I should pay tribute to the master of horror Stephen King and will be doing a King inspired sketch each day as follows,

Oct 1st - Carrie
Oct 2nd - Salem's Lot
Oct 3rd - The Shining
Oct 4th - Night Shift (pick a tale)
Oct 5th - Night Shift (pick a tale)
Oct 6th - The Stand
Oct 7th - Firestarter
Oct 8th - Cujo
Oct 9th - Pet Semetary
Oct 10th - Skeleton Crew (pick a tale)
Oct 11th - Skeleton Crew (pick a tale)
Oct 12th - It
Oct 13th - Misery
Oct 14th - The Green Mile
Oct 15th - Blood and Smoke (pick a tale)
Oct 16th - Full Dark, No Stars (pick a tale)
Oct 17th - Full Dark, No Stars (pick a tale)
Oct 18th - Cell
Oct 19th - Pick a story
Oct 20th - Pick a story

Alright so for the 1st 20 days, the challenge will explore scenes, characters and creepy crawlies from a number of relatively well known works by King. If you want to play the home version and aren't familiar with a particular piece on the list you can either do some research or substitute one you do know.

Oct 21st - Favorite Protagonist
Oct 22nd - Favorite Antagonist
Oct 23rd - Favorite Supporting Character
Oct 24th - Tragedy
Oct 25th - Nightmare Fuel
Oct 27th - Triumph
Oct 28th - Killer Object
Oct 29th - Haunted Local
Oct 30th - How "The Bangor Daily News" front page might look in a King story
Oct 31st - The Man Himself

These last few allow some exploration into specific scenes and characters and such that you may have liked to get to in the earlier days but didn't have an opportunity to explore.

I'll be posting mine in weekly blocks of 7 but will be working daily.

I'm going to try to get out of my comfort zone here and there, if you're participating you should too.

Other than that it's just one quick sketch a day.

I think this will be a lot of fun, join me if you like and spread the word among your friends.

Alright, I think that's it for now.

Hey guys and gals,

I wanted to get some updated commission news here so everyone knows where they stand after Genome mucked everything up in my commission business.

First here's a list of current projects in the production queue.

x Candy Girls comic
- Fantasy Drinking Party
x Fiance Princess
x Rupunzel Busteez
x Vanessa Dufenschmirtz
x TDI Gwen Busteez
x Bonnie Rockwaller Busteez
x Sam Manson Busteez
- The Babysitter comic

Getting some work done finally.

Secondly once I've worked my way through these I will be taking commissioned work again, hopefully over the summer so we can set up a summer blast sort of deal.

Third I'm going to try to do free sketches at Free Comic Book Day at my local comic shop so if your in the Elmira, NY area for FCBD then stop by Heroes Your Mom Threw Out Comic Shop and mayhaps I can hook you up with something.

Thanks for your continued support folks,
J

So I just got done talking to writer, colorer, editor of Genome, Andrew Glasgow. Good news everyone. Genome is available on Amazon. Just search Genome Graphic Novel and download it straight to your Kindle device for less then $10 bucks. If your a Nook person it should be available through Barnes & Noble.com soon. I hope you all enjoy it and any positive feedback you can leave for it at Amazon in these early stages would be much appreciated to help get the ball rolling on sales.

Thanks to everybody with your patience with me as I worked through this very time consuming process

Well as you might of noticed I'm finding more and more time for art these days. That's good on many fronts.

One, I'm getting to work on the back log of commissions I got before I got bogged down on Genome.
Two, I've been able to get to work on new portfolio items and my new website so hopefully I can get a job for which I was educated.
Three, I can start getting to work on some of my own projects that I've been planning.

Once I'm caught up on old commissions I'll probably get a new price list up and start offering them again.

Genome should be available soon on E Readers, I'll update here when it's available.

This good old thing is going around again, and featuring some fellow deviants seems a nice way to start the new year.

RULES:

1. For each of the 20 first people answering this journal, I will put their avatar and three deviations I like from their gallery on the list!

2. If you answer, you have to do the same in your journal, putting the tagger on the first place. The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone!

Well my work on Genome is finally finished XD, it only took 2 months longer than expected but I figured it might take longer then had been purposed. Anyway I believe the author wants to have it out on e readers by christmas for around $5 so keep an eye out for it on the nook store.

Alright now that Genome is done here's my plans for the coming weeks/months.

- People waiting on commission work you commissions will be addressed first and foremost, you have waited patiently and you will be rewarded.

- New commissions will be available as soon as I catch up the other ones and then recover from my terrible work burnout.

- I will be rebranding soon which mean a new website and promo items so i'll let you know as that stuff starts to become available.

- I have a need to create new art that's not Genome related. I have been inspired a lot by novels lately so upcoming projects will be related and include The Hunger Games trilogy, World War Z, Metatropolis, and more. I also have a thing piece to finish, an Addams family piece in the works and a Walking Dead collage. I'm sure this year will hold a lot more art but this is whats on my plate now.

- I'm planning on running around some of the conventions including Steel City Con and hopefully a second Hero Bot Con.

- Going to start working on my comic project soon, just gotta figure out which one I'm going to do. I may actually write a novel instead or both, something.

Alive, good to talk to you all, stay tuned for increased activity.

Genome (the graphic novel project I've been hired onto) is still eating up most of my time I got a couple hours here and there to work on other things like commissions but it's been slow going. I will try to get some work out possibly this weekend. Again my apologies to those with delayed commissions I will get them too you I just don't know when right now.

UPDATE: about a month out now from finishing Genome and then commission customers you are first on my list.

One other note if your in the Corning/Elmira area this fall there will be a couple of opportunities to meet me and get some art, One of these opportunities will be at Hero Bot Con sponsored by Heroes Your Mom Threw Out Comic Shop on October 8th. Hope to see some of you there.

UPDATE: Hero Bot Con has passed, I still have prints t-shirts and books available for sale that were left over

- prints $5
- prints $5 & men's and women's tees $20
- prints $5
- prints $5
- prints $5
- plus 1 copy of my zombie art book The Book of the Dead $50

Plus shipping & handling

Hey if your one of the poor souls whose commissioned me and is currently waiting on work hang tight. I have recently become an honest to god comic artist and am currently working on a sci fi graphic novel. Getting into the flow of it has set me back some but I'm finally getting to the point where I can work on other stuff again. So i'll be getting back to work on those and you can expect them soon, thanks to all of you for your patience.

Again Thank you all for your patience.

On another commission note it wouldn't be summer if I didn't run a summer blast commission sale. Expect news on that within the month.

UPDATE: Obviously didn't happen. Maybe some sort of holiday blast in the future.

You can expect my graphic novel project to be available via nook, kindle and other e-readers in the fall.

Ok so I may have landed a gig on a graphic novel. If I wind up getting the job commissions will be closing for awhile maybe the entire time i'm working on the project which will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 months. This means if you want any commissions get them now! I still have busteez available for this round you can take advantage of and my normal commission rates are available for other projects.

I've been tagged by :iconstr4yk1tt3n:

This meme is about telling people they are awesome and not about forcing people to make one of their own or they get left behind when the rapture happens. It's well...:

The rules:
1. Compliment ten people (include avatar so people can visit their pages or link them if you don't have a premium account).
2. When you are done, invite the people you complimented to pay the favor forward in a journal entry of their own.
(This doesn't mean these people are *required* to do this themselves. A compliment is a voluntary act of kindness and isn't to be given out of nothing more than obligation. Nor do they have to do all ten if they don't want.)
3. Return compliments are not required.

I could list a lot of amazing artists on this list but for the sake of helping out the underrated I'm going to try to keep iot to people with low total page views and maybe a couple of other really cool people. I'm also going to put a little twist on this and add one of my favorite pieces from their gallery.

1. :iconmacnaughtonista: <--- this dude is one of the best political artists I know, not just that I've met. His style is unique and he nails each piece with great content. It's always a pleasure to see new work from you Mitchell, keep it up!

2. :iconstr4yk1tt3n: <--- well you tagged me so I had to include you. I also had to include you because you are an awesome artist. I totally took hook, line and sinker when you April Fooled us with the Disney concept artist thing on Facebook. There is a reason you got best of show at graduation and it's going to a dog fight to get this Graphic Novel with you in the running (i'm just glad :iconmacnaughtonista: decided that it wasn't for him or we'd before be on the outside looking-in. haha.

3. :iconpoofette: <--- this girl is one of the strongest, nicest, most talented people I have had the honor to meet. She has been battling Lupus which causes her tons of pain and she still puts out amazing work. I wish I had known earlier in our friendship so I could have been more supportive. Keep fighting Penelope and keep making stunning art.

:thumb129118863:

4. :iconeskipo: <--- one of the best friends I made at the Art Institute. Mitch is always positive and has something funny to say. On top of that he is an awesome designer and digital artist. I miss you dude and the next time I'm down in The Pitt we are hanging out.

:thumb111269769:

5. :icontriften: <--- another awesome friend and artist from AIP. Man, there was nothing like having a good laugh with you and I hope things are working out good for you.

6. :iconreal-faker: <--- one of the best cartooning styles I've seen in a long. She has a great selection of fanart and some great original content as well. Plus she's pretty funny and nice too.

7. :iconloopydave: <--- some of the funniest work I've seen that's painted this well. He's a boss caricaturist and always seems to know just how to approach his subjects. I always dig seeing new works from this guy.

8. :iconstressedjenny: <--- a talented artist who cranks the most sickenly-sweet work you'll ever go 'awww' at. She's funny and always seems to respond to feedback.

9. :iconvashperado: <--- an awesome artist. His art is beautiful and unique and he is a monster of a character artist. The commission he did of Ophelia is still one of my favorite pieces ever and he has improved leaps and bounds since. Mike has always seemed supportive and friendly. One of the coolest people I've met on Deviant Art.

10. :iconjamcitycomics: <--- a great friend and artist. This dude has supported me almost as long as I've had art on the internet. He has a great urban style of art, really funny ideas and has, like me, worked to improve himself so much. Probably the best friend I have never met. Keep being awesome dude.

whew! I could probably do more but that took awhile so that's where I'm leaving Please check these guys out and give them some love. They are all awesome and all deserve it!

So as you might now i've been doing these things i'm calling character busties. Anyway I love doing them and want to make some for you. For just $25 you get a bust of the character of your choice if full color as well as the characters name down the side and some sort of simple colored background. In some cases if you have an idea for a quick word bubble or callout for the character (see deadpool, spidey and black cat) i'll throw that in too. Normally a commission like this would run you in the neighborhood of $50 - $60 bucks from me so it's a pretty sweet deal. It's open to all characters, oc's, even real folk, just start throwing names out there. I'll keep a list of the characters I get here too though i'm not opposed to doing multiple takes on the same character. Now let's make some busties!

All of the Round 1 Busties are posted, Ahsoka Tano is the poll winner this week, the new poll is up with some new characters. Jubilee and Tank Girl have been added to the poll bustie list and a new poll will be up soon. I'll be doing Jake and Finn, and Marceline just for fun.

Only 1 slots available in Round 2. If you missed out or just want some more busties get them now. Please help me get these rolling.

Requests, I don't take them

Tue Feb 15, 2011, 6:58 PM

I don't requests sorry.

I feel like I have to bring this up because of a recent barrage of people asking for free art. This is my bread and butter folks, I'm about 4 weeks away from making art my only source of income. I am available for commissioned work from time to time, so please if you are a fan of my work and would like something please commission it but ask me to work for you for free because you wouldn't want to work for anyone for free either.

Holiday Prep

Fri Nov 5, 2010, 4:42 AM

Well it's November time to start prepping for the Holiday season. Theirs Thanksgiving in a couple of weeks, shopping, Christmas, New Years all to get ready for while I'm still trying to put together my portfolio, my website, my zombie art book, commissions, a couple of side projects. Things just seem to be rolling out of control right now. All and all I sold quite a few zombie portraits last month, mostly through ebay, so that's good. Another commission sale sometime in December most likely.
